Charged with the murder of his commanding officer, Colonel Winch, Major Keller pleads justification, but witness after witness is against him and the evidence reveals his love for the dead colonel's wife, Laura. Called as a witness for the defence, Laura states that her husband suffered from battle fatigue, while Keller himself reveals Winch's plan to betray his comrades in exchange for his own freedom.
