Siena: A Race with the Past
One of the great commercial centres of medieval Europe, the city of Siena in Tuscany appears almost unchanged today. Old traditions also continue, like the famous annual horse-race, the Palio, held every summer on the city square.
This film, made by Italian Television, captures the excitement of the Palio and relates it to everyday life in Siena then and now.

A Borrovian stroll through what was once ' Wild Wales ' 5: Proceed on Journey
John Seymour continues along the path of the Victorian writer George Borrow who walked through Wales when it was still a strange and alien land even to its closest neighbours. Some of that strangeness still exists in the mountains of Merioneth, the emptiest acres south of the Scottish border.
George Borrow's route south from Snowdonia leads into an area of central Wales much less marked by modern tourism and industry. In Merioneth, particularly, the language and music of ' 'old' Wales are still strong and the countryside that Borrow described remains much as it was 120 years ago. Or does it?
