3 : The Camera Maker
' Now if I can' see what a customer wants, I'm in a bit of a flutter. It's a bit of a worry until I get hold of a plane and a piece of wood, and then all is peace.'
(FREDERICK GANDOLFI, camera maker)
Even today the fine hand-made plate camera is still the instrument of the professional.
In a London workshop FREDERICK and ARTHUR GANDOLFI still manufacture these splendid and much valued instruments, using techniques developed from a century of experience.

A series about animal behaviour and survival
Elephant Seals
Fighting between bull elephant seals is spectacular and sometimes bloody; but apart from this, we know comparatively little about the behaviour of these colossal animals.
Now zoologists have spent four months with a colony in Argentina recording the intimate details of the seals' social system. Narrator HUGH FALKUS

What Price Steak?
Do you feel you really understand the reasons behind the rising price of food?
Each increase of course has its own specific reasons, but to help unravel the kind of factors involved tonight's Horizon investigates just one item - beef.
For about a year now its price has been fairly stable and there has recently been talk of a glut of beef and falling prices. Yet it is likely that within two years there will be a shortage severe enough to push beef beyond the purse of many housewives.
The programme pieces together the jigsaw of events behind what is now a crisis in agriculture - events which began with the Polish bread riots in 1970 and may point to the end of a cheap food policy for Britain. Narrator PAUL VAUCHAN
