A group of American industrialists agree to finance a private venture to send the first manned rocket to the moon. philip JENKINSON writes:
' Despite the authenticity of the hardware, there are lots of unintentional laughs, especially when the astronauts wax philosophic. But the set-pieces, like the take-off and cliff-hanging return, provide many nail-biting moments. Note the sequences where the commander " claims the moon on behalf of the United States for all Mankind." Hmmm! '

"I think that I may say with truth that I rode hard to the very end": these words of Anthony Trollope could well describe the feelings of everyone involved in The Pallisers, a 26-part drama starting next Saturday on BBC2.
The Pallisers Special, an 84-page guide - in full colour to this lovely new serial, will be on sale from 18 January at 30p

Forsyte Saga, War and Peace - these are perhaps the best remembered BBCtv classic serials. Next week sees the start of another classic, The Pallisers, written for television from six novels of Anthony Trollope by the novelist Simon Raven. Trollope is perhaps best known for his Barsetshire novels. But after abandoning Barsetshire, he set out to write the 'political' novels.
As 'Radio Times' did for War and Peace, The Onedin Line and Dr Who, it now does for The Pallisers with a new 'Radio Times' special, price 30p, which covers not only the serial, but also the background to the life of Trollope and his times.
A Preview to The Pallisers with its stars, Susan Hampshire (from Forsyte Saga) and Philip Latham (from The Troubleshooters): 9.20.
