SIR CHANDOS BLAIR as the 94th recorded Governor of the Castle He demands the Key of the Castle and that the gates be opened. Housed in the Castle are the Honours of Scotland - the Crown, Sceptre and Sword of State which were lost for over 100 years until discovered by Sir Walter Scott in 1818. The Sword of State is ' borne in accordance with ancient custom immediately before the Sovereign at the Installation of Knights of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.'

Seventy years ago, the economist J A Hobson described as ' notoriously false' the claim that imperialism gave as much to the countries that it conquered in economic services as it took from them in tribute. KEITH KYLE , who reported the bloody end of Belgian colonial rule in the Congo ten years ago, has been back to that country, now called Zaire.
