Hobson's Choice - The End of Imperialism? .
Seventy years ago, the economist J A Hobson described as ' notoriously false' the claim that imperialism gave as much to the countries that it conquered in economic services as it took from them in tribute. KEITH KYLE , who reported the bloody end of Belgian colonial rule in the Congo ten years ago, has been back to that country, now called Zaire. What is there left of imperialism in this part of Africa now? How has one country absorbed, changed, or escaped from what it was left by its European developers? Are they still stuck with Hobson's choice?
