The Riddle of the Runestone
In 1898 a Swedish-American settler in Minnesota dug up on his farm a large rock which was reported to have inscribed on it a message in Viking runes. There was also a date - 1362. For 75 years argument has raged over whether the runestone is a hoax or not. If genuine, it provides incontrovertible proof that Vikings visited mid-West America at least a century before Columbus.
New evidence in Scandinavia and Minnesota has made possible a reassessment of a riddle which in this film carries viewers from Denmark to Iceland, Greenland and the USA.
