SIR CHANDOS BLAIR as the 94th recorded Governor of the Castle He demands the Key of the Castle and that the gates be opened. Housed in the Castle are the Honours of Scotland - the Crown, Sceptre and Sword of State which were lost for over 100 years until discovered by Sir Walter Scott in 1818. The Sword of State is ' borne in accordance with ancient custom immediately before the Sovereign at the Installation of Knights of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.'
