A series of five new films
On 21 July 1972 Mrs Avril Mitchell and her 16-year-old son Alan set out for France. In 24 hours both would know if they had achieved their lives' ambition. They had with them £250, scraped together from raffles, charity walks and dances - money that would all go to pay those experts essential to the success of 'The Crossing.'
Before sunrise on the next morning the attempt began. Conditions were poor. It was cold and there was a thick fog. Throughout that day fortunes changed by the hour. As evening approached Alan Mitchell's strength drained away. It looked as if the attempt might fail.
The world-famous chamber orchestra plays Vivaldi's popular Concerto Grosso, Op 3 No 11; a virtuoso Grand Duo by Bottesini for the unusual combination of violin and double-bass; a newly discovered Violin Concerto in D minor by Mendelssohn, composed at the age of 13; and Bach's Air on the G string.

This week: To Catch a Fox
Every day of the week, except Sunday, from November until April, farmers, squires, lords, ladies and, on occasion, even Princess Anne all ride to hounds. During the past year, Man Alive has followed the South Dorset Hunt where Jeremy James talked to those who hunt and those who don't.
He has discovered that in this year of 1973, hunting is a booming sport: for those who do, for those who watch, and for those who protest against it all.
