Topical arts magazine introduced by David Jones.
A rare opportunity to observe the work of one of the greatest British choreographers, Sir Frederick Ashton, until last year Director of the Royal Ballet and creator of some of the most famous ballets made for the English stage.
Next week the Royal Opera House puts on its Sleeping Beauty, for which Ashton contributed special passages of dance, and tonight we present the first television performance of a work of his which has hardly ever been seen before - a pas-de-deux to the music of Massenet's Meditation.
Only twice before was it publicly performed in this country - at galas at two London theatres - and as a tribute to the 35 years Ashton was associated with the Royal Ballet, Review asked him to remount Meditation for our cameras: to talk about the way the dance was created, and what have been the influences on his choreography.
The dancers are two young stars of the Royal Ballet: Antoinette Sibley and Anthony Dowell.
