Set in the slums of Mexico City, this uncompromising story about a young thug who is determined to show his proficiency in every branch of crime won director Luis Bunuel the Grand Prix at Venice in 1951. Bunuel used non-professional actors in this unsentimental study of juvenile delinquency, and the film created a considerable stir when it was first released in Europe.
