Galia von Meck is the grand-niece of the Russian composer Tchaikovsky. Now 80, she looks back over a remarkable life which began in the secure aristocratic world of Imperial Russia. When the revolution came in 1917 her father was shot, her second husband disappeared and she was sent to a prison camp in Siberia. After enduring the hardships of Soviet Russia for more than 20 years she fled to the west during the war.
Galia von Meck's memories of those turbulent years make a moving and vivid story, described with courage and humour.
