The story of a Scot who was called a 'magnificent failure,' also a 'secret hero.' Patrick Geddes was the father of modern town-planning, a professor of botany who never took a degree, the originator of the saying that specialism means knowing more and more about less and less.
He was a man who bubbled over with ideas - ideas about life and living, about sex and education, and a host of other subjects.
His failures were due to the fact that he was always from 50 to 100, perhaps 200, years before his time

Starring Gina Lollobrigida with Vittorio Gassman, Robert Alda

Gina Lollobrigida plays the Italian soprano Lina Cavalieri in this screen biography, directed by Robert Z. Leonard, which also features the voice of the famous Italian tenor Mario del Monaco.

Lina Cavalieri is torn between a Russian prince who once rescued her from a gang of hoodlums in a Roman theatre; Mario Silvani, a tenor who launches her into a career as an opera singer; and her teacher Maestro Doria whose attentions are unwelcome.
Eventually the threads are brought together at a performance of Tosca in front of the Russian Tsar's court.
