Tonight: The Mike Westbrook Concert Band
Whilst he was an art student in 1958 Mike Westbrook first conceived the idea of forming a band to play the sort of jazz he believed in. He left college and came to live in London four years later, and spent the greater part of his time forming the nucleus of what was to become a powerful force in British jazz... Tonight's programme features Mike Westbrook's latest composition. Metropolis, based on his impressions of first visiting London.

Tonight's film in this season of outstanding films of the past 10 years from the movie capital stars Marlon Brando
Brando, perhaps Hollywood's greatest acting discovery of the fifties, plays Harrison Carter MacWhite, America's new and inexperienced ambassador to a South-East Asian state. MacWhite's failure to distinguish between the desire for independence and Communist infiltration almost involves his own country in a major confrontation.

Perhaps never since the Reformation has the Christian religion passed through such a traumatic time as the last 12 months. Roman Catholic priests openly defying their bishops over the Pope's ruling on birth control; another revolt over the celibacy of the priesthood. The Church's year of change as seen by the cameras of European TV.
