A series of films from all over the world about our astonishing planet and the creatures that live on it.

For four years an English girl, Jane Goodall, studied chimpanzees in the wild forests of tropical Africa. This remarkable film tells the story of her unique experiences with man's closest living relatives.

The World About Us at 7.25
'One of the happiest days of my life', says Jane Goodall about the day she pitched camp in the Gombe Stream Reserve in equatorial Tanzania. From childhood days in Bournemouth she had dreamed of studying wild animals in Africa; then the dream came true, and for five years she lived among chimpanzees.
But It took months to overcome their suspicions - months spent in learning about their general behaviour, observing their nomadic movements and social groupings, their nesting and feeding habits. When they allowed her to approach closely and themselves visited her camp site, sometimes stealing her clothing or taking food from her hand, she was able to observe their behaviour more intimately. The result is a remarkable film.
