Horizon - man and science today
Men have proved themselves to be the most successful animals on earth. Will they prove as successful under the sea? Can they exploit the sea as they have the land?
Only in recent years have we had the techniques to investigate the depths of the oceans. But we are ill adapted for this new conquest: to us it is a hostile environment. Under water we are inefficient and inadequate compared with the giant fish and the sea mammals whose world it is.
Horizon looks at how scientists are helping man enter this new world; at the whales and dolphins who may befriend him there and at the sharks who most certainly will not.
When first presented in 1967 the Daily Mail called it a 'totally engrossing' programme
