Award-winning Irish writer Colm Toibfn is Michael Berkeley's guest today. His books include The Blackwater Lightship (1999) and The Master (2004), both shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and, most recently, a collection of short stories entitled Mothers and Sons. He has also written about Barcelona, where he lived for a while, and the Irish famine. His musical choices include Casals playing Bach, songs by Faure, Gluck, Schubert and Sibelius, a string quartet by the Irish composer Frederick May , and part of Wagner's Die Walkure.
