Black British Swing
2/3. Michael Pointon continues a series about the little-known tradition of black and mixed-race British swing bands. In the 1930s a network of after-hours clubs developed, at which bandleaders such as Ken "Snake Hips" Johnson plied their trade. Johnson moved upmarket to a residency at London's Cafe de Paris, where he was killed on stage by a direct hit from a German bomb in 1941. With contributions from Andy Simons , author of a Study Of the subject. Producer David Perry
