BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Le Grand Macabre
The Hungarian composer Gyorgy Ligeti 's satirical opera is based on the theatre piece La Balade du Grand Macabre by Michel de Ghelderode. A prelude of car horns heralds an extraordinaryjourney to the surreal kingdom of Breughelland, where an outlandish cast of characters come face to face with the end of the world. This semi-staged performance is presented by Stephanie Hughes.
