At the time of his death in 1955, pianist Richard Twardzik had performed as a sideman with Charlie Mariano, Serge Chaloff and Chet Baker and recorded just one session with his own trio. His unique approach and startling technique coupled with the scarcity of his recordings has over the years afforded him almost mythical status among musicians. Composer Bob Zieff, Twardzik's mentor and friend, helps Jez Nelson paint a picture of one of modern jazz's great lost men.
