BBC Symphony Orchestra
Today Tommy Pearson helps to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday with an airing of Walton's magnificent score to Laurence Olivier 's film of Henry V. Walton 's work is coupled with a recent performance of the Violin Concerto by John Adams. It has been said that Adams' music "gives the impression of a rediscovered liberty, of an open door which lets in the fresh air in great gusts." In this performance, given as part of a weekend devoted to Adams' music, the BBC SO is partnered by the young American violinist Leila Josefowicz. Walton, arr Palmer Henry VSamuel West (narrator), BBC Singers, Trinity Boys' Choir, conductor Leonard Slatkin
