(1770-1827). With Donald Macleod. 1: Bonn Beethoven was the third generation of his family to be employed at the court of the Elector Maximilian Franz. His grandfather had been Kapellmeisterfrom 1761 and his father was a singerthere. Beethoven himself worked at court in various capacities and, with a court orchestra of over 40 players, musical life was lively. He wrote his Octet forwind in 1792, aged only 20, and by the time he was 24 he had composed his first piano concerto, which he performed at his public debut in Vienna.
