Introduced by Donald Macleod.
Mendelssohn is still considered to be one of the greatest of all musical child prodigies. The music he composed in his youth is astonishingly competent; but more miraculous than his grasp of musical technique was his formidable understanding of form and emotion. He sprang fully formed, it seems, and displayed depth and maturity even as a teenager.

Sean Rafferty presents a selection of music, arts news and new CD releases. His guests today include British-born soprano Jane Eaglen, one of the hottest properties on the operatic circuit and much in demand for the high dramatic roles such as Brunhilde and Turandot, which she is currently performing at Covent Garden.
