Michael Oliver talks to director Jonathan Miller about his famous production of Verdi's Rigoletto, in which the action was transposed from 16th-century Mantua to the Mafiosi dens of fifties New York. The music is taken from the recording of that production, with John Rawnsley as Rigoletto, Helen Field as Gilda, and Arthur Davies as the Duke, her seducer. rBy Reza de Wet. Set in post-revolution
Russia, Three Sisters Two is both a thoroughly believable sequel to Chekhov's Three Sisters and - by offering a vision of the confusions and collapse of value systems in the wake of political upheaval - a pertinent comment on Reza de Wet's homeland, South Africa, in the late nineties.
