Performing Verdi

on BBC Radio 3

Michael Oliver talks to director Jonathan Miller about his famous production of Verdi's Rigoletto, in which the action was transposed from 16th-century Mantua to the Mafiosi dens of fifties New York. The music is taken from the recording of that production, with John Rawnsley as Rigoletto, Helen Field as Gilda, and Arthur Davies as the Duke, her seducer. Mark Elder conducts the forces of English National Opera.
