A rare performance of a fantasy opera by the Austrian composer
Alexander Zemlinsky , written between 1897 and 1899 with the encouragement of Gustav
Mahler. Once Upon a Time tells the story of a princess who in true fairy-tale tradition (and with the help of a magic kettle) marries her prince and - after a rather unusual startto their relationship- lives with him happily ever after. Zemlinsky Es War Einmal

Science-fiction writer William Gibson was one of the very few people to anticipate the information and communication revolution of recent years, and his novels have become renowned for their prophetic themes, as well as for their powerful and literary style. He talks to Laura Cumming about imagining the future as his latest work All Tomorrow's Parties takes us into a post-net world. And on national Poetry Day, Christopher Ricks discusses his new edition of the seminal anthology The Oxford Book of English Verse, and writer Iain Sinclair makes his case for one of The Lost Voices of British Poetry.

At Ronnie Scott's
In her second set from the famous Soho club, Regina Carter concludes this week of programmes celebrating the club's 40th anniversary. The jazz club was opened in the basement premises of 39 Gerrard Street in London's Soho on Friday 30
October 1959. It was the realisation of a dream for its two founding members
Ronnie Scott and Pete King. By 1965 the success of the club required them to find bigger premises and they moved to 47 Frith Street. Introduced by Alyn Shipton.
