Dutch soprano Elly Ameling is one of the finest recitalists. By concentrating on the concert repertoire, she achieved an impressive depth of response , harnessing the fresh youthful quality of her voice to her emotional and artistic understanding. This programme includes BBC archive recordings made in 1977 at the Maltings, Snape, of songs by Schubert - including The Shepherd on the Rock - and of the Opus 39 song-cycle Liederkreis by Schumann from a BBC recital given in 1979 at St John's, Smith Square, London.
