Water Dripping in a Bowl
"The fingernail loom and the weaver's song; the nightingale's floor and the temple boxers; the riverbank musicians and the water trade; kyukyu, sha-sha, bdiri-bdiri, shin-shin." A series of eight experimental radiophonic programmes begins with an evocation of the ancient Japanese city of Kyoto, an atmospheric study re-edited by John Theocharis from a recent Japanese radio documentary by Malte Jasperson. Here are the sounds, songs, words and silences of the city that was Japan's capital for more than a thousand years.
