Gothenburg on the penultimate day of the championships, with seven gold medals at stake. In the men's marathon, Mexican Dionicio Ceron , winner of the London
Marathon, is favourite, while former World Cup champion Richard Nerurkar runs for Britain. The sprint relays also get under way, with Linford Christie in action. This afternoon's key events include at 1.00 the start of the men's marathon, at 4.00 the women'sdiscus final, at4.05the men's 4 x 100 metres first fround, at 4.40 the men's longjump final, and at 4.45 the women's4x 100 metres first round.

Tony Jarrett carries Britain's hopes in the men's 1 10 metres hurdles in the absence of the injured Colin Jackson , the 1993 world champion and current world record holder. Jarrett took the silver medal behind Jackson two years ago in Stuttgart and this time is hoping to go one better. But he faces a tough American challenge from World Indoor champion Allen Johnson and former Olympic champion Roger Kingdom.
