Alexei Sayle ends his six-part series on safe driving by turning his attention to passengers, who too often remain silent when being driven recklessly. "Most of us," says Sayle, "would rather eat windscreen and die than have to tell a respected companion he's driving like a crash dummy."

Kate, 22, is the sole survivor of a crash that killed six people. Until then, she confesses, "I thought I was immortal." While most of us drive more carefully when there are other people in the car, groups of young men are often a lethal exception.
