"There were days when I wanted to pack up at lunchtime and tell everyone to go home," says director Steven Spielberg about his latest multi-Oscar-nominated film, Schindler's List.
In an interview filmed by Jon Blair , maker of the documentary Schindler which was shown on BBC2 last week, Spielberg reveals that the film stretched him way beyond anything he'd done before. Not only was it a departure in style for him - he says he "used a documentary/ news approach rather than my usual David Lean approach" - but the subject matter was particularly stressful for a man rediscovering Judaism.
The interview gives a rare insight into the director's feelings and motives and is illustrated with clips from the film as well as archive footage of some of those who survived the Holocaust because they were on Schindler's list.
