The Pretty Route to Weston The Weston, Clevedon and Portishead Light Railway has been described as one of Britain's most unusual lines. It even advertised
'Blackberry Picking Specials' and spent most of its working life in the hands of the official receiver.
Managed by the legendary Colonel Stephens, the line had a genius for muddling through, but closed soon after the outbreak of the Second World War.
Gwyn Richards recalls the line's hey-day with the help of former passengers, staff and an '0' gauge model.

The final part of David Dimbleby 's series about Britain and America.
7: Turning up the Volume
This programme brings the relationship up to the Thatcher/Reagan era.
In April 1982, the Falklands Task Force needed vital information about the performance of the Argentinian submarines. The Americans had the answers, but publicly were neutral.
Lord Lewin, Chief of Defence Staff rang his opposite number in the Pentagon. 'Can you help?'
Within hours, a top secret document arrived on his desk in London containing the information he needed. The relationship under Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan was based on a shared belief in a strong defence. But, David Dimbleby asks, what happens next if America thinks the Soviet threat is receding.
