Henry Lincoln investigates the story of a young American artist, Joseph Lindon Smith, who, in 1909, was to present a ritual play in the Valley of the Queens for some archaeologists. The ritual was to be performed in an endeavour to lift a curse placed upon the Pharaoh Akhenaton in 1354 BC. The final rehearsal was brought to a dramatic end; a mysterious happening which caused all the players to question the 'supernatural' power of the gods of ancient Egypt.
