starring
Robert Powell , Georgina Hale
In this extravagant portrait of a great composer, director Russell combines his restless imagination with a factual analysis of Mahler's life. A series of interlinked flashbacks shows Gustav as a young boy, torn between his parents' ambitions for him and his longing to compose. His later struggles for recognition and against anti-Semitism underpin this vivid re-creation of a great artist.
Tonight's version is slightly adapted for TV by the director.
