★ Stanley Unwin
In his talk today Stanley Unwin will describe the various processes that go into making a book from the moment when the manuscript arrives in the publishing house to the moment when the reader takes it into his hands in bookshop or library. Many people have a hand in the book before you get it, the publisher's reader, for example, the publisher himself, the printer, the proof-reader, the author again, and finally the traveller and the distribution department.

A Programme of Light Classics by The Johan Hock Ensemble and Nan Maryska (soprano)
Nan Maryska started to play the cello at the age of four, but when seven, gave it up for the violin. She later studied the piano, and eventually took lessons with Artur Schnabel in Berlin. While there a one-time repetiteur of the Scala, Milan, heard her singing and persuaded her to study under him. She made her debut with two recitals in London, and was immediately afterwards engaged for the Coronation Grand Season at Covent Garden.
Since then Nan Maryska has sung all over the provinces, broadcast frequently, and appeared in television. Last November she made her first appearance in oratorio, singing the soprano part in Messiah.

' What to do about it'
Howard Marshall , on behalf of listeners, questions ' Mr. White Hall ', a senior official concerned with National Service.
Once again ' Mr. White Hall ' will be in the studio to answer questions put to him by Howard Marshall on various listeners' problems in connection with National Service. As a result of his previous two broadcasts Howard Marshall has been deluged with questions, and this evening, after having analysed them, he will put to 'Mr. White Hall ' a further hatch.

Country Life '
John Archibald McCallum
(The series arranged in collaboration with the Australian Broadcasting
Commission)
Last week listeners to this series of talks from ' down under' heard something about the life in the great cities of Australia. Tonight the scene shifts to the vast Australian country-side, and you will hear about life in the Bush, on the great sheep ranges, and fruit farms.
The speaker was born in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales in 1892, and was educated at
Mittagong Public School, Sydney High School, and the University of Sydney. After serving through the war he returned to Australia, and soon obtained the appointment of English master at Sydney High School, and Tutorial Class Lecturer at Broken Hill. He is a well-known figure in Australian broadcasting, having been doing commentaries for the past three years for the Australian Broadcasting Commission.
