The third act of Primo Riccitelli 's opera Aladonna Oretta is the climax of a romantic adventure brought about by Madonna Oretta , the fascinating and clever wife of a Florentine silk merchant, to win the favour of the gallant Count of San Gemignano. The period is the second half of the fifteenth century, and the action of this act takes place in an inn at Fiesole, on May 1, where a crowd has gathered to celebrate May Day. There Madonna Oretta meets the Count again, and although at the end of Act 2 he has renounced women and love, he cannot resist her charms.
Primo Riccitelli , who has written several operas, was born at Cognoli, Abruzzi, in 1880, and was a pupil of Mascagni.
