Once a term the Schools Broadcasts Department in Scotland arranges a competitive lesson, and one of a new kind will be heard this morning. Six boys and girls from local listening schools will oppose each other in the studio in a French Spelling Bee. Classes listening in schools will match their spelling against the competitors in the studio, and a pause for them to get their words down will be made after each word.

Sir Frederick Whyte , K.C.S.I.
Not since he gave his introductory talk in this series some two months ago has Sir Frederick Whyte appeared alone at the microphone. This evening he will do so to examine the colonial interests of three European powers in the westernmost corner of the Pacific-namely Great Britain, France, and Holland. The recent events on the island of Hainan will add point to Sir Frederick's talk.
