Out of the Depths
Kenneth Adam
On April 20, 1936, the rescue was announced of two men, Dr. Robertson and Mr. Alfred Scadding , from their entombment in a gold mine at Moose River, Canada. For over a week, rescue parties had toiled feverishly to reach the imprisoned men. This afternoon Kenneth Adam will recall this incident, which aroused wide interest throughout the New World and in Europe, and will also talk about other near escapes and adventure thrills of recent times.

a Programme of Gramophone
Records by Francis Toye
This afternoon Francis Toye , chief music critic of The Morning Post and a well-known contributor to the RADIO Times, is giving the first of six broadcasts devoted to Italian opera. He will begin with excerpts from the operas of Monteverdi, Caccini, Peri, and Alessandro Scar latti, and then progress through examples from Handel, Mozart, Donizetti, Bellini, Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, and various contemporary composers.
It may be mentioned that Mr.
Toye has specialised in Italian music, and, apart from innumerable articles on the subject, he has written two notable books, one on Verdi and the other on Rossini, and it is rumoured that he is now at work on a book on Puccini.

Hedgehogs ; Badgers ; Otters
Eric Parker
Eric Parker will discuss hedgehogs, badgers, and otters — animals that existed before man. He will speak of the habits of hedgehogs, their courage and confidence, their absolute fearlessness of ourselves. As for badgers, he will speak of their cleanliness and homeliness, their diversity of diet, the probability that they are more numerous than people think, and the question as to whether they do any harm. Finally, he will speak of otters, wild as well as tame, and some tame otters he has known.
