' The Story of the Cuckoo'
C. C. GADDUM
Listeners are to hear about the cuckoo-some of the facts about it and some of the fallacies. Mr. Gaddum will discuss the laying of the eggs in other birds' nests, and say what has been learned about it from photography. He will describe the early life of the young cuckoo and the curious events that take place in the unfortunate foster-parent's nest. Teachers might with advantage have an illustration of a cuckoo to show their classes.

Dramatic Reading:
Scenes from
' The Merchant of Venice' by William Shakespeare
The scenes chosen from The Merchant of Venice are those which were broadcast to schools eighteen months ago-the' ducat' scene, in which Antonio borrows money from Shylock for his friend Bassanio, and the famous trial scene, in which Portia deprives the Jew of his pound of flesh '. The story of the play leading up to the scenes will be told to listeners before the scenes are acted, and Carleton Hobbs will again give his fine rendering of Shylock, which he broadcast to schools the summer before last.

The Jewish Review Chorus and A Section of the BBC Theatre
Orchestra, conducted by Harold Lowe
Original Music by Joseph Halter , with interpolated items from the works of Saint-Saens and Anton Rubinstein
Orchestrations by Dorothy Hogben
Here is a second edition of the diverting and successful Jewish review, first broadcast in June last year. As before, music, artists, chorus will all be Jewish ; many of the words in Yiddish. But in case those who do not understand Yiddish might hesitate to tune in, let it be said that everything in Yiddish will be explained by the compere and everything will be understood. The central item will be a musical fantasy ' Day-Dreams ', written and composed by Joseph Halter , with interpolated items from the works of Saint-Saens and Anton Rubin stein. The most important item is the Epilogue, to which every Jew especially should make a point of listening. The title Almonds and Raisins is the name of a well-known traditional Jewish melody.
A series of talks about the countryside
' Birds' Eggs'
Eric Parker
Eric Parker will stress the great variety of birds' nests in colour, size, and shape. Can we say that there is any law of coloration or any kind of protective mimicry as regards their surroundings ? Is colour acquired in a process of evolution? These are some of the questions to be dealt with in this talk, and the speaker will also discuss the methods of egg collectors and the need for protection of rare birds.
