On May 15, Clarkson Rose 's famous and happy holiday show ' Twinkle ' is to open at the pier, Eastbourne, for the third summer in succession. These broadcasts, last night's and this afternoon's, give listeners the opportunity of hearing the company in full strength before they set out to conquer Eastbourne anew. Established in 1921, 'Twinkle' had' its first season in Ryde, Isle of Wight. Since then it has played record seasons at Shanklin and Westcliffon-Sea, to say nothing of a recent tour of the principal theatres of Australia for long seasons in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Brisbane. Last year at Eastbourne it played to over 120,000 people. Clarkson Rose , the proprietor, was one of the pioneers of the modern type of seaside show. He appeared at the Royal Command Performance at the London Coliseum in 1928, and this year scored a hit as the ' dame ' in the Lyceum pantomime, London. He and his leading lady, Olive Fox , are the only artists left of the original ' Twinkle ' company.

Leader, J. Mouland Eegbie

From Gluck is said to originate all modern opera, or at least that side of it that comes under the heading of Grand Opera. Iphigenia in Aulis was one of Gluck's greatest successes in his zealous campaign of directing French opera into that dignity and sanity from which it had lapsed since the early days of the art. The libretto of Iphigenia was founded on Racine's drama, which itself was in some measure adapted from Euripides.
