The Glasgow Orpheus Choir will bear comparison with almost any other choir in existence, so far as the singing of madrigals, part songs, and folk songs is concerned. Many of these have been arranged by Sir Hugh S. Roberton , its distinguished conductor. Sir Hugh began his career as the trainer of a church choir and then became conductor of the Toynbee House Choir, Glasgow, a small body of singers who became the nucleus of the Orpheus. For attack, beauty of tone, and perfection of ensemble there are few British choirs that can surpass the Glasgow Orpheus.
