A portrait of the iconic black entertainer. Born into acute poverty in St Louis, USA, Josephine Baker became a dresser for a black revue show, but what she really wanted to do was dance. In 1925 Baker travelled to Paris where she appeared in the Revue Negre. She was an instant hit and by 1927 was the highest-earning woman entertainer in Europe.
