In this instalment of the repeated series focusing on the 1970s, The Sweeney star Dennis Waterman presents a look back at the year when heart-throbs such as motorcycling world champion Barry Sheene, singer David Essex, Scottish pop band the Bay City Rollers and the Fonz (Henry Winkler's character in the hit US comedy series Happy Days) set pulses racing. It was also a year when Charlie Girl, Brut and Hai Karate were the fragrances of choice, and ITV's World of Sport provided a regular feast of seventies-style British wrestling that captured the enthusiasm of Saturday-afternoon television watchers.
Meanwhile, the Steven Spielberg-directed Jaws terrorised the big screen and the high-camp musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show had audiences around the country on their feet and doing a dance called The Time Warp.
