The concluding part of the series traces the process by which trumpeter and band leader Miles Davis combined jazz with rock 'n' roll to launch a new electric sound - fusion - and documents the triumphant return home to the USA in 1976 of the tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon, who had lived in Europe for 15 years. A new generation of musicians emerged over the next two decades, led by trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. As jazz enters its second century, the journey begun in the dance halls and streets of New Orleans at the start of the 20th century continues.
