Continuing the repeat run of the seventies television series about the Second World War, narrated by Laurence Olivier. Despite having the largest pre-war army in Europe, France was defeated with ease by Germany due to the French reliance on outdated First World War techniques and equipment. With the fabled Maginot Line of fortifications easily breached in the west where it did not extend to the Channel, France was exposed to German troops supported by superior armour and air forces.
