War satire based on Joseph Heller 's bestselling novel, starring Alan Arkin , Martin Balsam and Richard Benjamin. 1944, an American Air Force base in the Mediterranean. Surrounded by the horrors of encroaching madness and constant death, Captain Yossarian asks to be certified as mentally unfit to fly. Only then does he leam about Catch-22: since no sane person would want to fly, requesting to be grounded suggests sanity. Thus he feels compelled to continue the bombing missions. Widescreen.
