In 1979, evidence emerged of a meteorite strike 65 million years ago that had completely wiped out the dinosaurs and much of life on Earth. Years later, scientists tracked down the 200km-wide crater caused by the impact, which was equal to a million times the world's combined nuclear arsenals.
But why did the dinosaurs perish and mammals survive?
Investigation of the crater offers an explanation of events and reveals the moment-by-moment story of the mass extinction.
