Little Englanders. The British have a reputation for being bad at languages. Less than a fifth of the population speaks any foreign language. Yet in 1960s Britain there was a revolution in language teaching. Children from the age of 8 were learning French, and a special course was designed to make foreign languages appealing to young children. Tonight's programme asks why the project was killed off and whether that decision has created generations of little Englanders.
