A series of four documentaries filmed behind the scenes at London
Zoo as it fights for its future. Survival of the Fittest. The
Zoological Society of London was the first of its kind in the world. Now it is suffering the worst crisis in its 166-year history. The new management team believes it must cut its costs drastically and somehow attract more visitors. One in three of the keepers will have to go, even though they have worked devotedly with the animals all their lives.
As they prepare to apply for their own jobs, keepers wonder how much their expertise matters in the new zoo. The successful staff are relieved and excited; the others are devastated. What hurts them most is having to leave their animals.
Producer Molly Dineen has made several acclaimed TV documentaries including, in the 40 Minutes series, Heart of the Angel about a London Underground station.
Executive producer Edward Mirzoeff An RTO production for BBCtv
