Last programme in the series. The present Queen inherited 200 acres of royal gardens in 1952. Their story in her reign has been mostly one of survival, with little opportunity for creativity. Prince Charles, however, has not been subjected to such pressure, and has been able to create a stunning new country-house garden at Highgrove, his home in Gloucestershire. The Prince delights in showing the varied garden he has created over the past ten years, which must be one of the most important gardens laid out in the 1980s in this country. The League of Gentlemen
Thirty years ago, a group of bright young economists convinced British politicians that they had a plan that could solve Britain's problems. The politicians - both Conservative and Labour - were bewitched by the promise. But what resulted was disaster, again and again. Three decades of experiments, from the National Plan to monetarism, have led the country further down the spiral of economic decline.
Today, Britain is in the grip of one of the worst slumps this century, and no one seems to have any idea how to end it.
Tonight's film tells this sad but comic saga, showing how the grand economic plans led directly to disaster and asking the economists responsible if their game is finally up? Producer Adam Curtis
